Interview Feedback
15/10/11

Alireza Sedghi
Alireza understood my questions well and as a result, was able to speak with confidence, with a wide range of vocabulary and good pronunciation. He made a couple of mistakes with the incorrect use of prepositions and was unable to us a future form in response to my question of future plans. In order to further develop his English, Alireza should now look to incorporate more complex structures such as the future and conditional into his speaking.

Pouria Sajadian
Pouria’s introduction was very detailed but clearly much practiced, so lacked a natural flow. He used the past and present simple well and his subject verb agreements were accurate however, he failed to use the present continuous where necessary. Perfecting the construction and use of the continuous should be Pouria’s priority in his studies going forward.

Soheir Jahangiri
Soheir started with a clearly rehearsed introduction and made some mistakes with her use of prepositions and plurals. It was also necessary for me to rephrase a number of questions in order for her to understand what I was asking. However, when I asked Soheir to recommend places for tourists to visit she provided some really great examples of modals including, ‘You should...’ and ‘Tourists could...’.Going forward, if Soheir spends some time on expanding her vocabulary she will soon notice an improvement in her speaking.

Mohammad Javad Rahmanian
Mohammad started the interview without the need of a prompt and spoke with good pronunciation throughout. He used some excellent expressions of frequency including ‘almost always’ and ‘once in a while’ and thought carefully about his answers. He also provided good examples of the future tense when discussing his future plans and reverted back to past simple well when telling me about his previous job. Mohammad has a good level of spoken English which could be further improved by further listening practice.

Masoud Haghnegahdar
Masoud clearly has a firm understanding of English and used the interview as an opportunity to really show what he was capable of. His listening skills and his bank of vocabulary are excellent and both his subject verb agreements and his use of plurals were consistently accurate. He also provided me with two different future forms when discussing his plans for the future. Unfortunately, Masoud repeatedly confused his he/she subject and as a result lost some of the fluency he created by his other language skills. This is a quick and easy error to resolve but will make a big difference to his spoken English.

Mohammadhadi Moradiardakani
Mohammadhadi spoke with confidence and understood my questions well. He also included some good expressions of frequency including ‘hardly ever’. Unfortunately however, the clarity of what Mohammadhadi was saying was lost as a result of the speed at which he was speaking. If he concentrated on controlling the speed of his speech, his pronunciation would automatically improve and he would allow himself more time to provide grammatically correct answers.

Salman Kargar
Salman began with a much rehearsed introduction of himself but provided lots of information. His pronunciation is fine and his subject verb agreement, accurate. Salman struggled to understand some of my questions which resulted in him either providing the answer to another question or a rephrase on my part. He also found it quite difficult to expand his answers due to a lack of vocabulary. The expansion of this should be a main focus for him along with some more listening practice.

Yazdan Heydari
Yazdan seemed to be quite nervous during the interview often speaking too quickly and giving only one or two word answers as a result. With this in mind, it was quite difficult to assess his level of spoken English. He needs to focus on expanding his vocabulary which will automatically make speaking easier for him. He should also try to improve his pronunciation.

Shahla Abbasi
Shahla spoke very confidently and with considerable fluency throughout the interview. She understood my questions without any difficulty and her pronunciation was good. Grammatically she included an accurate example of ‘going to’ future and was precise in her use of plurals and her subject verb agreements. Shahla clearly feels very comfortable speaking English but this can also result in a lack of attention to questions she feels are perhaps too easy for her.  She was very quick to answer my questions and sometimes did not give herself time to understand the question fully before answering. Going forward she would benefit from taking time with her speaking and trying to expand on answers without help from the interviewer.

Maryam Javdani
Maryam seemed quite nervous during the interview but tried hard with her answers and attempted to expand them whenever possible without my prompt. Her subject verb agreement was good and she understood my questions well. Maryam has mastered some of the basics of English but there are some basic areas that still need some attention from her including the use of plurals. This should be her first point of study going forward from where she can look to attempt more challenging vocabulary and grammar.

Mostafa Movahhed
Mostafa appeared to be fairly nervous during the interview but he did try hard to provide the right answers to my questions. He used the present simple well and self-corrected on occasion which shows a nice attention to detail. As Mostafa only has a small amount of vocabulary it was very difficult for him to speak in any detail. Expanding his vocabulary range should be the main focus for Mostafa in the immediate future. He also needs to master his use of the present continuous in order to be able to discuss his interests and hobbies accurately.

Ehsan Soleimaninik
Ehsan’s pronunciation is fine and he included some good expressions of frequency in his interview. He also attempted a future formation when asked about his future plans. Unfortunately though, the interview seemed to be quite difficult for Ehsan as he struggled to understand a number of my questions. Going forward he should look to spend more time on listening practice and ensure he remembers the inclusion of articles in his speaking.

Sina Joata
Sina was quite nervous during the interview although he understood my questions well and had good subject verb agreement. He also self-corrected his mistakes with plurals and articles which shows a nice attention to detail. He also provided an accurate example of the ‘going to’ future when discussing future plans. Sina omitted the verb ‘to be’ from a number of sentences where it was necessary which is something he should look to improve on going forward.

Roya Rahmani
Roya’s pronunciation was fine and her subject verb agreements accurate. She also expanded her sentences well without having been prompted. Roya needs to be careful not to use too many fixed phrases in her speaking such as ‘I usually...’ and ‘I’m crazy about...’ in order to allow for more natural speech and could also look to include more complex grammatical forms such as the future and conditional rather than just relying on the present simple.

Amin Sorinejad
Amin worked hard throughout the interview thinking carefully about his answers and providing me with as much detail as possible. His pronunciation was fine and he showed he knew the correct structure to use when discussing free time activities such as ‘go to the cinema’ and ‘go camping’. Amin confused his –ed/-ing adjectives which is easy to correct. He also included the verb ‘to be’ in front of a past verb when just the past simple was needed. Amin will quickly improve by spending some time focussing on these areas.

Mohsen Tahreri
Mohsen’s pronunciation was good and his vocabulary bank large. He understood my questions very well which, together, allowed him to provide detailed and accurate answers. He was a very keen speaker which is great but he should now look to try more complex grammatical formations such as future structures and the conditionals in order to take his English to the next level.

Ehsan Amiri
Ehsan’s introduction was clearly much rehearsed which is a shame because he actually has the ability to speak accurately but much more naturally. He showed this during the second part of the interview where his speaking included to different future formations used accurately and a third which he attempted but just missed. He included modals, plurals for generalisations and self-corrected some of his mistakes. Ehsan could progress quickly to the next level if he continues to add more complex structures to his English.

Abaolrahman Norinasab
Aboalrahman’s pronunciation was good as was his use of plurals and his subject verb agreements. In order for Aboalrahman to understand my questions, I was forced to rephrase on more than one occasion so he would certainly benefit from some more listening practice. He also needs to revise the structure of expressing leisure activities e.g ‘I go to swimming’ and ‘I like to play’ which should be fairly familiar at this level.

Ali Khoshnami
Ali’s pronunciation was very good and he understood all of my questions without difficulty. He included the ‘going to’ future in an accurate manner when discussing his future plans and included modals when making suggestions for tourists visiting his home town. Ali has a habit of repeating questions aloud as he processes the meaning of what is being asked which shows focus and attention to detail but at this level he should being doing this in his head or only for more challenging questions, if possible.

Zahra Yousefnia
Zahra’s introduction was delivered with confidence and a lot of detail but was clearly much rehearsed which took a lot of the naturalness out of her speech. Her sentence structure, even when speaking naturally in response to my questions was still very good and she used the future well when discussing her future plans. Zahra has a good level of English so should be careful not to include too many fixed phrases and pre-rehearsed sentences into her speaking.
