Interview Feedback Level 8 Group 3

Hamidreza Khobineh

Hamidreza used some appropriate opening expressions and was able to use examples suitably for some of his questions. He gave an excellent answer for his question on compulsory military service and used adequate vocabulary when answering this question. However, he needs to expand much more because many of his replies lacked depth. He made some errors with pronunciation, had to have his questions rephrased on several occasion and was unaware of ‘ecotourism’. Finally, some sentences were muddled and this reduced his fluency, for example, ‘he can do after before necessary activity’.

Fatemeh Karimi

Fatemeh used a wide range of vocabulary in her responses like ‘controversial’ and was able to use a range of grammatical structures including conditionals. She was able to vary her opening phrases and spoke at a good pace. Having said this, she would benefit from expanding her answers further as a couple of them fell a little short and she missed out the odd word or two in her sentences such as ‘we haven’t electricity’. Also, she should focus on her listening slightly as she mistook ‘tourism’ for ‘terrorism’.

Zahra Parsayi

Zahra was a competent speaker and used a variety of opening expressions in each of her replies, which we constantly detailed. She could support her ideas with reasons and examples and her listening was of a very high standard because she did not need any of her question repeating and answers immediately. She made one or two errors with prepositions, for instance, ‘since midnight’ rather than ‘from’. Also, she used incorrect verb patterns as she used an infinitive verb rather than the gerund form.

Naghmeh Esfandiyari

Naghmeh spoke at a steady pace and was able to speak in the present and past simple tense confidently. She could understand each of her questions which demonstrated good listening skills and used appropriate vocabulary. Having said this, she was not able to expand on her answers which meant that they were too short on several occasions. Furthermore, although she used one or two opening expressions, like ‘as a matter of fact’, she used them every time and for some questions this expression did not work due to the type of question asked. Finally, she needs to work on forming passive as she said, ‘they have executed’.

Mandana Abbasi

Mandana was a clear speaker and had good listening skills, although she did mishear ‘ecotourism’ as ‘terrorism’, which resulted in an inaccurate response. She was able use 1st and 2nd conditional structures correctly and gave an excellent response for why it was important to have a flashlight. Having said this, she only really gave a detailed response for one or two questions, so she ought to work on expanding more next time. Also, she used auxiliary verb incorrectly as she said, ‘I’m not agree’.

Elham EsfandiyarNejad

Elham used appropriate vocabulary for her answers such as ‘catastrophic’ and was able to develop her answers every time. She just brilliant opening phrases and spoke at a natural pace using a range of grammatical structures. She needs to be careful with her singular and plural verb forms and should work on her pronunciation slightly because she pronounced ‘smoke’ as ‘schmoke’ and she generally spoke with a rising intonation.

Hossain Sadat

Hossain was a very competent speaker in English and used colloquial language in some of his responses. He used a variety of opening expressions, which were always appropriate, gave examples to support his ideas and used complex structures. He should be careful with his singular and plural nouns and verbs as he said, ‘200 person was dead’; and should work on his fluency a little more as there were some occasions when he would repeat himself again while trying to complete the sentence and this made him less fluent.

Shabnam Kajavshekan

Shabnam was able to use a range of modal verbs in the right context and used comparative structures correctly. She started each of her answers off well, but when it came to giving extra details she struggled greatly and this was down to her not being able to remember vocabulary to assist her. So she would benefit from working on her lexis more. Also, she made one or two errors with her tenses as she said, ‘ it happening in Iran’ rather than the past simple.

Ahmadreza Alinejad

Ahmadreza used some suitable expressions like ‘waste time’ and had good pronunciation skills because he continuously used the correct stress. He used opening expressions and could use present grammar structures well. Having said this, he ought to work on his listening further as he often gave a different answer to what was being asked due to him mishearing a word. One example of this is when he was asked about a ‘natural place of beauty’ he responded with an example of a ‘natural disaster’ instead. Also, he used the wrong auxiliary verb several times.

Mohammadali GolbaharHaghighi

Mohammadali demonstrated excellent listening skills and used comparative structures accurately. He used suitable key lexis and was able to expand more of his answers and when he gave them, they felt genuine rather than rehearsed which highlighted his high level of fluency. However, once or twice he confused his singular and plural verb forms as he missed the ‘s’ off third person and used ‘is’ rather than ‘are’. Also, he mixed up his modal verbs once because he needed to use ‘have to’ when referring to military service, but used ‘should ‘instead. So he should work on this slightly next time.

Ali Kiyani

Ali used a wide range of vocabulary which fitted each of his questions. He was able to give a balanced argument when discussing technology and could speak in present and past tenses well. Although he used key lexis, there were certain times when it was used in a sentence incorrectly, for example, ‘it’s very couch potato’. Also, he did not use the correct form of a word at times as he would use the adjective one when the noun form was needed.

Sedigheh Bahremand

Sedigheh was able to express herself well and gave good reasons to support her opinion. She used a range of grammatical structures such as ‘used to’ correctly and demonstrated very good listening skills. She was not able to reproduce the present perfect tense when asked a question in this way and used an incorrect modal verb at times, so she needs to work on her grammar more. Also, she pronounced ‘lakes’ with two syllables.

Maryam Haghmanesh

Maryam used recent examples in some of answers, which was great to see, and she spoke clearly throughout. She was able to comprehend her questions and could form simple sentences well. However, she struggled to expand on them due to a limited range of vocabulary and this really hinders her responses because they were often much too short of an answer. Also, this reduced her fluency overall as many answers were made up of incomplete sentences.

Forogh Baneshi

Forogh used a range of adverbs and demonstrated excellent comprehension because she could answer each of her questions well without having them repeated. She used the past tense appropriately and could understand a range of structures such as conditionals. She made one or two errors with verb patterns as she used a gerund when the infinitive form was needed and missed out the ‘s’ when using third person verbs, so a little extra work on these grammar points would be helpful.

Parisa Salari

Parisa was a brilliant speaker and spoke in a fluent manner. She used colloquial language accurately and spoke at a natural pace. Also, she gave detailed answers whenever possible supporting them with examples. Furthermore, she had very good listening skills. Although her sentence structures had very few errors, on a couple of occasions she put one or two words in the wrong order. For example, ‘to know how should they treat…’ and she used indefinite pronouns for a negative sentence in a positive one.

Meysam Ghasempor

Meysam had good pronunciation skills as he did not struggle to reproduce the correct stress in words. He spoke confidently using the present and past tenses and was able to give numerous ideas for different questions. Having said this, he needs to work on his listening more because on several occasions he gave an answer which was not completely relevant for what was being asked. For example, when he was asked about where he had visited, he spoke about why other people want to visit certain places. Also, he should work on his word formations as he did not use the correct verbs collocations e.g. ‘how to be a good life’ instead of ‘lead’ or ‘have’.

Shobnam  jalali

Shobnam was a steady speaker and was able to speak using simple sentences. Her pronunciation was of a good standard and she generally comprehended her questions easily. However, she would benefit from working on her listening further because she mistook ‘natural disaster’ for ‘natural beauty’ and this resulted in an inappropriate response. Also, she gave quite limited details in her answers so she ought to work on ways to expand them further to give more depth.

Azam Keshavarzi

Azam had reasonably good listening skills because she did not need to have answer repeated too often. She used the first conditional structure well and used correct verb collocations. However, she used auxiliary verbs when using the present simple tense e.g. ‘I’m study…’ and many of her sentences were missing prepositions or articles, which resulted in broken down sentences. She also pronounced her /w/ as /v/ and was unable to expand her answers which resulted in inadequate replies given. So she would benefit from developing her vocabulary and grammar structures further.

Mohammed  bahmani

Mohammed was an extremely confident and competent speaker of English and was able to give detailed answers throughout his assessment. He used a wide range of structures without any difficulties and used appropriate lexis for each questions. Also, he used opening expressions well and used a wide range of vocabulary which fitted each question perfectly. There were only a couple of slight errors such as missing out the auxiliary verb when forming the passive e.g. ‘6000 killed’ and made a couple of mistakes with quantifiers and collocations as he said ‘reached many progresses’ rather than ‘made so much progress’.
