Interview Feedback
18/12/11
Mohamad Reza Vahidiyan
Mohamad Reza performed well throughout his interview and tried very hard to extend his answers and to keep the conversation moving as much as possible. His pronunciation and his use of prepositions and the present simple were all good but he needs to pay more attention to his use of plurals. In order to progress Mohamad should work on his listening skills and look to introduce other tenses and forms into his speech.
Donya Nasori
Donya’s pronunciation and listening skills are good and she is not afraid to rephrase a question to check her understanding before providing her answer. She showed an appropriate understanding and use of the past and present simple and provided accurate subject verb agreements, where necessary. Donya needs to remember to include articles and a wider variety of quantifiers when speaking in order to improve her fluency.
Amin Sahraeiyan
Amin seemed a little bit nervous during the interview but tried very hard to do well. Although he misunderstood a number of my questions, he showed a good awareness of different grammatical forms including some more complex ones such as the first conditional and the ‘going to’ future. Amin should now try to work on his pronunciation and his listening skills so as to be able to put his grammatical knowledge to better use.
Somayeh Bamdad
Somayeh appeared distracted during the interview and as a result, made some simple mistakes including describing her husband when asked to describe her apartment. Grammatically Somayeh showed some good knowledge including a conditional form but forgot to include articles on a couple of occasions. If she improved her concentration and practiced her listening as much as possible her English would automatically improve.
Reza Karimi
Reza seemed to be quite nervous throughout his interview but clearly tried hard and thought carefully about his answers, self-correcting on occasion. He also gave lots of information. Reza would benefit from an effort to increase his vocabulary and speaking in English would become a lot easier for him as a result. He should try to get as much listening practise as possible which would also help with his own pronunciation.
Amir Hadi
Amir’s pronunciation is good and his ability to listen carefully and understand what is being asked is excellent. He concentrated well and self-corrected on occasion. Grammatically, he used a variety of structures including the ‘going to’ future and present continuous and attempted the use of the conditional. In speaking situations, Amir should try harder to expand his answers as a means of showing the listeners the full extent of his English ability. He also needs to beware of including the verb to be when not necessary e.g ‘I am live with...’.
Shohreh Kazeronian
Shohreh tried hard during the interview and used some more complex language structures including the ‘going to’ future and the conditional. Unfortunately however, she misunderstood a couple of my questions which resulted in her providing the answers for different questions. Shohreh would benefit from improving her listening skills through listening to English speaking radio or tv/film. She also needs to be careful not to continue speaking too much and repeating herself because she is nervous.
Zahra Bardestani
Zahra’s spoke clearly throughout the interview with good pronunciation. Unfortunately however, she made some basic grammatical mistakes including incorrect prepositions, a lack of articles and the misuse of plurals, although this may have been because she was nervous. Zahra failed to understand a large number of my questions and as a result, her answers were incomplete and not necessarily correct. In order to move forward in her language learning, Zahra needs to obtain more vocabulary and work hard to improve her listening skills. This will allow her to become more involved in conversations/interviews of this type.
Ferdose Torabi
Ferdose’s pronunciation was very good and she showed off her grammatical knowledge by including forms like the ‘going to’ future in her speech. She self-corrected a couple of times which shows a nice attention to accuracy. Although her vocabulary was fine, Ferdose did sometimes mix up nouns with adjectives and verbs with nouns but this is something she can easily correct in time. In order to improve her conversational ability, Ferdose will need to improve her listening skills which could be done by trying to speak English as much as possible with classmates and listening to English radio or TV programmes.
Hasan Ahmadi
Hasan’s pronunciation is fine and he understood most basic questions well but found more complicated questions quite difficult. This may be the result of little listening practise in English. There were articles missing at times and his sentence structure was quite confused on occasion. If he spent some time focussing on these areas, the fluency of his English would quickly improve. He would also find that obtaining more vocabulary would allow him to speak more confidently and in more detail.
Mohammad Asjadiyan
Mohammad is a very confident speaker with very good pronunciation and the ability to listen and understand questions well. He possesses some useful introductory phrases such as ‘as a matter of fact’ which make his speaking seem more relaxed and very natural. Nevertheless, Mohammad must make sure he is still paying attention to important grammatical features including the use of articles, where necessary, and be careful not to included the verb to be unnecessarily e.g., ‘I was graduated...’.
Hadi Navid
Hadi did not seem to be able to concentrate during the interview, spoke repeatedly in Persian and became frustrated when unable to understand my questions. Hadi’s answers were very short and articles were missed but pronunciation was good. Hadi should try to get more listening practise in free time so as to understand more and be able to respond with much fuller answers. An increase in vocabulary would also help here.
Yahya Khoshkalam
Yahya’s pronunciation is fine but unfortunately he is held back from being able to take part fully in English conversations or interviews of this kind by a lack of vocabulary. Increasing this should be his main priority at this stage. He had difficulty understanding some of my questions which also made it hard for him to provide accurate answers. Going forward, Yahya should look to work on his listening skills as well as widening his vocabulary.
Mohamad Hosein Ghasemi
Mohamad’s pronunciation is fine and he tried hard to extend his answers but is held back by a lack of vocabulary. Although he understood most questions well, he got quickly became frustrated on the occasions he couldn’t. His subject verb agreements were accurate throughout the interview which shows a good start to his grammatical usage but he would find English much easier by focusing his time in the immediate future on increasing his vocabulary bank.
Hamidreza Tabatabaei
Hamidreza’s pronunciation was excellent and he both understood and answered questions without difficulty and included a range of modals to make his speech more varied. It is clear he has a genuine interest in English language learning which is shown in his push towards accuracy and self-correction. He can continue to improve by attempting to introduce some more complex structures into his conversation.
Hamad Yosefi
Hamad struggled with understanding some of the initial questions but became better as the interview continued and he began to relax. He made some basic grammatical mistakes such as mixing up he/she subjects but this is an easy correction to make with more concentration. Hamid tried some quite advanced grammatical structures during the interview including the first conditional but would help himself considerably by expanding his range of vocabulary.
Gholamreza Zafari
Gholamreza started well and understood, and answered, some of my introductory questions without any problems. He is held back from speaking in a relaxed manner by a lack of vocabulary which should be his main focus at this point and he could also spend some time practicing the correct use of prepositions. Gholamreza seemed very nervous but the more practise he gets at speaking English, the quicker he will improve.
Iman Mahmodi
Iman’s listening skills were very good and he understood a large majority of my questions without me having to either repeat or rephrase them. He made a basic grammatical mistake with the unnecessary use of the verb to be in the sentence ‘I’m graduated...’ but later showed a higher level of skill by accurately including ‘I’m going to...’ and ‘I’d like to go...’ when discussing his future plans. Going forward, Iman would benefit from focussing on increasing his range of vocabulary which will result in a quick, overall improvement to his English.
