Interview Feedback

07/01/12

1.) Afshin Shahriyari (Level 8)     82/100

Afshin spoke with confidence throughout the interview and expressed his opinions in a concise manner with good technical vocabulary. In the discussion of life with and without modern technology, Afshin included some interesting points using the conditional and showed his attention to detail by self-correcting on more than one occasion. Although there is no problem with his pronunciation, he could consider focussing on this going forward to bring it up to the same level as his other skills.

2.) Sasan Samivand (Level 8)       70/100

Sasan’s pronunciation is good and his vocabulary is adequate for this level. He expressed some interesting opinions on the topic of technology using quantifiers, adverbs and a variety of negatives to support his points. Although his listening skills are fine, his answers were extremely short and he had to be pushed to provide further information. At this level Sasan should be working hard to expand his answers in speaking practise and use the opportunity to show the assessor the language skills he possesses.

3.) Ramin Akrami (Level 8)          85/100

Ramin’s pronunciation is excellent and he clearly possesses a good grasp of the English language including a wide range of vocabulary. His inclusion of the sentence ‘people’s ability to buy things is decreasing’ is a perfect example of this. His listening skills were good and he understood my questions without complication. His confidence is encouraging however he did make a few simple mistakes through a lack of attention to detail and therefore needs to beware of becoming too relaxed in his speaking.

4.) Esmail Rostaei (Level 8)         ABSENT

5.) Mehrsa Hadizadeh (Level 8)   87/100

Mehrsa’s pronunciation is excellent and she speaks with great enthusiasm and confidence. Her passion for language is clear and she used the opportunity to show off her abilities including her well-developed listening skills. Going forward, Mehrsa should focus her attention on accuracy, in particular the correct use of prepositions and articles. Perfecting these small things will very quickly allow her to move to the next level.

6.) Yosef Keshavarz (Level 8)        67/100

Yosef tried very hard throughout the interview and really concentrated on understanding my questions. He included a good reference to how his life has changed by using ‘used to...but now...’ and attempted the use of a conditional. In order to improve, Yosef would benefit from spending time going back over the basics including the correct use of the verb ‘to be’ and sentence word order. He could also consider some focus on his pronunciation.

7.) Zohreh Zare (Level 8)                79/100

Zohreh spoke confidently throughout the interview and possesses good pronunciation. Her accurate use of gerunds worked well and her listening and understanding of my questions was excellent and clearly supported by her wide range of vocabulary. Although she presented some good sentences in the past simple, she did not take the opportunity to include a conditional when pushed to and she regularly mixed up prepositions and missed articles. Focusing on these areas going forward would provide Zohreh with an even higher level of English.

8.) Negin Hoseini (Level 9)             81/100

Negin’s overall level of English is very good and she used the opportunity to show what she was able to do with it. Her pronunciation is great and she took time to answer the questions accurately and clearly, clarifying what exactly I was asking before providing her response. Negin’s replies included a range of adverbs and modals in suitable places although there were a number of mistakes made with prepositions and a lack of article. By focusing on these points in the future and an effort to obtain more vocabulary, Negin will continue to improve her language skills.

9.) Homan Rad (Level 8)                 66/100

Homan’s listening skills are very good and he understood my questions well by working through them step by step. His introduction was very detailed and provided lots of interesting information but he needs to beware of sounding too rehearsed at this level. Homan confused his nouns and adjectives on a couple of occasions and would quickly improve by spending some time remedying these errors.

10.) Sahar Zadebagheri (Level 8)  83/100

Sahar spoke well throughout the interview and was able to answer my questions in full as a result of both her listening ability and her wide range of vocabulary. When describing her city she used a nice mix of adjectives and included a good simple future sentence using ‘will’ when discussing where she sees herself in 5 years time. Sahar mixed up her nouns and verbs on a couple of occasions which is a fairly simple thing to correct but will increase the fluency of her speech dramatically.

11.) Mojtaba Taghavi (Level 6)      87/100

Mojtaba worked very hard during this interview, listening very carefully and thinking about his answers before speaking. His subject verb agreements were accurate from start to finish and his vocabulary range fantastic. Although he made a couple of mistakes with his prepositions, in my opinion, Mojtaba has shown he would be more than capable of progressing to Level 7.

12.) Sepideh Sepehr (Level 8)          72/100

Sepideh was conscious of ensuring her answers to my questions were correct and, consequently, clarified a number of them before answering, which is great to see. She used some fairly advanced vocabulary, particularly when discussing her family and included some good adjectives. Going forward, Sepideh needs to spend time working on the accuracy of her grammar; although her present simple is fine, she made a number of mistakes with the past simple and was unable to provide a future conditional when pushed. She could also consider focusing on the accuracy of her prepositions.

13.) Saeed Momennasab (Level 8)   ABSENT

14.) Ali Mazaheri (Level 4)              79/100

Ali spoke slowly and carefully through the interview which shows he was concentrating hard and thinking about his responses. His pronunciation is good and present simple accurate; he also used the ‘going to’ future accurately and tried some more complex phrases when expressing differing opinions towards modern technology. Overall, Ali did very well but was held back by a lack of vocabulary which is a common problem at this level. He should consider spending time obtaining a wider range of language so as to be able to express his opinions and ideas with less difficulty. He should also watch out for confusion over his nouns and adjectives.

15.) Zahra Javdani (Level 4)             67/100

Zahra seemed to find the interview quite challenging and often looked towards her own teacher for assistance rather than trying the use the language she had to answer the question. Her pronunciation is good but she is held back considerably by a lack of confidence in her speaking and the desperate need for more vocabulary. This should be Zahra’s main focus over the coming months. She should also look to practice her listening skills whenever possible.

16.) Erfan Omidi (Level 4)                79/100

Erfan’s listening skills are excellent and as a result, he was able to understand some slightly more complicated questions with ease. He also provided a good level of vocabulary and included a variety of expressions of frequency such as ‘always’ and ‘usually’. Going forward, Erfan needs to focus on his grammar including the use of the verb ‘to be’ in the present, varying the verbs he uses when describing free time activities rather than repeating the verb ‘to go’ and watch out for irregular verbs in the simple past simple e.g., ‘I went...’.

17.) Sajad Hayan (Level 6)               74/100

Sajad’s listening skills are very good although the accuracy of some of his answers was prevented by an apparent lack of concentration. He used a good example of a conditional form when stating he would hate to be a pilot but could not reproduce the form when answering what he would like to do in the future. Sajad speaks with relative fluency but should beware of incorrect use of prepositions. If he focused on these and tried to concentrate a little more on the accuracy of his speaking, he would soon find himself progressing to the next level.

18.) Mohamad Javad Fathipour (Level 7)    82/100

Mohamad’s pronunciation is very good and he showed the ability to accurately use a number of grammatical forms including the simple present, the present continuous and the past simple. His subject verb agreement was also good, as was his use of ordinal numbers however, he needs to beware not to include the verb ‘to be’ when it is not necessary. Half way through the interview Mohamad requested more simple questions although I believe he was doing well at level 7 and should have more confidence in his own English ability.

19.) Azam Keshavarzi (Level 3)       71/100

Azam seemed to find the interview fairly difficult but she tried very hard to understand what I was asking by working through the questions step-by-step and picking up on keywords which is exactly the right thing to do at this level. Once understood, she replied with care but was held back by a lack of vocabulary. Azam’s main focus should now be to try and obtain as much vocabulary as possible so as to be able to provide the answers she wants. From there she can start thinking about basic grammatical forms.

20.) Hamideh Rahsepar (Level 8)    ABSENT

21.) Mojtaba Iranbastan (Level 9 questions) 90/100

Mojtaba has a fantastic grasp of the English language and both speaks and listens with great ease. He provided some good technical vocabulary and answered some fairly challenging questions without hesitation. During the interview I tried to test Mojtaba by not grading my language or the speed of my speech but his understanding was not affected and I was able to communicate with Mojtaba in much the same way as I would a native speaker. In order to progress further, Mojtaba should consider introducing so more complex forms and vocabulary into his speech.
