Mohammad Janati
Mohammad was a confident speaker who was able to talk at length as he used personal examples and gave reasons for his views. Furthermore, he used opening expressions and used a wide range of vocabulary which always related directly to each question. He made a couple of grammatical errors because he used a plural verb instead of a third party, such as, ‘drama have …’ and he mistakenly used the present perfect tense instead of the past simple once or twice.
Aslan Ghorbani
Aslan demonstrated a good knowledge of English grammar as he was able to use conditionals and modals correctly in his answers. In addition, he used opening phrases to show agreement, for example, ‘Yes, of course…’ and was able to speak in full sentences throughout. However, he should work on his listening a little more as he misunderstood a question on small talk and instead gave an answer on gestures. Also, he made a few prepositional errors, including, ‘effect to children’.
Forod Elani
Forod had good listening skills as he was able to comprehend the questions easily enough. Furthermore, he used a wide range of vocabulary including quite advanced language such as idioms and phrasal verbs. He needs to work on his grammar a little more though as he used incorrect prepositions, such as, ‘I jumped at a building’; and used the wrong tense at times, like ‘I always like to go Germany and Great Britain’ instead of ‘I would like to go…’.
Maryam Zareai
Maryam spoke at a naturally fluent pace and had excellent pronunciation skills because she was able to stress words correctly and used intonation well too. Also, she could use appropriate language especially when asked about movies. Having said this, she generally gave quite short responses so she should work on ways to expand them next time. In addition, there were one or two grammatical mistakes, including using the past perfect instead of past simple tense.
Mandana Rasekh
Mandana was a pleasant candidate who could comprehend the majority of questions and speak in simple sentences well. Furthermore, she used emphasising words correct and used a good amount of lexis throughout. Although she used a reasonable amount of vocabulary, she struggled to understand a question about travelling abroad as she did not know the meaning of ‘abroad’, so she should work on expanding her vocabulary further. In addition, Mandana should use linking words because she often missed them out and this hindered her fluency.
Zahra Famori
Zahra gave a detailed introduction and was able to use opening expressions in her answers. In addition to this, she spoke clearly, used examples in her responses and used contractions throughout which helped with her fluency. However, she often gave quite brief replies so she needs to work on ways to give more details, also she had a couple of irrelevant answers given as she misheard the questions, for example, when she was asked about a funny film, she spoke about her favourite type of film instead.
Maryam Safaei
Maryam was a pleasant candidate who could speak in both the present and past tenses correctly. Furthermore, she used relative clauses and opening phrases well in her answers and she used a wide range of vocabulary throughout. She should focus on her grammar a little more as there were a few occasions when she missed ‘s’ off plural nouns, such as, ‘they had a lot of problem’. Also, when forming negative sentences she tended to say ‘no’ rather than ‘not’ or a prefix.
Somayeh Mahmodi
Somayeh spoke clearly and had good pronunciation skills. In addition, she used modal verbs well in her answers and could speak in full sentences. However, she should work on her grammar more as she made several mistakes with articles, especially with the definite article as she would use this rather than omitting it when talking in general terms, such as, ‘the children shouldn’t watch …’.Also, she made a few mistakes with prepositions, like, ‘on home’ instead of ‘at home’.
Najmeh Shojaeiyan
Najmeh was a polite candidate who gave a good introduction and spoke at a steady pace. Furthermore, she appeared to understand many questions as she had some good ideas, but when it came to putting them into full sentences, she struggled majorly as she would start a sentence confidently, but never managed to complete what she initially wanted to say. So she should work on using linking language more and find ways to expand her answers for next time. Also, she made a couple of prepositional errors including ‘it depend to children’.
Mehdi Hashemi
Mehdi was a cheerful candidate who used adverbial language well in his answers. In addition to this, he used suitable language in his responses and was able to expand his answers with examples to support his ideas. However, he needs to work on his listening more because when asked some questions, he replied with an inaccurate answer, for example, when asked about small talk, he spoke about gestures. Also, he should work on his grammar more as there were a couple of issues with his word order, such as, ‘I usually in my country go…’; and he sometimes used an adjective when it should have been a noun.
