Interview Feedback

13/04/12

1.) Amin Chabokrou (Level 8)                  65/100

Amin’s pronunciation is fine and he tried hard with his listening, even when he didn’t understand 100% by picking up on keywords and trying to expand his responses as much as possible. He also attempted a conditional form for a hypothetical situation. Amin would find speaking in English becomes less of a difficulty if he could take on some more vocabulary. He could also try to spend a little time on practising his sentence structure.

2.) Shohreh Kazeroniyan (Level 8)                   61/100

Shohreh did well not to repeat my questions in her answers and she self-corrected some of her pronunciation errors without a prompt which is good to see. Unfortunately Shohreh did miss out the main verb on a number of occasions and confused some of her linking words which had an overall effect on the fluency of her speech. Going forward she should look to revise sentence structure and remind herself how important the use of the main verb is.

3.) Donya Nasori (Level 8)                        80/100

Donya’s pronunciation is excellent and she is clearly a very confident listener and speaker of English. Her tense errors were self-corrected and she has a good range of vocabulary which allowed her to expand her answers without hesitation. Overall, her fluency is of a high standard however she did make a number of mistakes with her subject verb agreements which is a basic error and slightly disappointing to see in someone who performed so well in all other areas. Attending to these should be her absolute priority.

4.) Zahra Ghaed Sharafi (Level 4)                  76/100

Zahra’s pronunciation is fine and her listening and understanding of my questions was very good. Her subject verb agreements where mainly correct and she included continuously accurate usages of both the present and past simple. Although it was nice to see a variety of modals in her speech, Zahra needs to be careful they are not overused. She must also try to ensure main verbs and articles are always present (when required).

5.) Mohamad Hasan Hamzavi (Level 4)                      66/100

Mohamad understood my questions well and tried hard to expand his answers. He used a nice variety of adverbs and expressions of frequency when describing his typical day and included an accurate example of the going to future which is great to see at this level. Mohamad did confuse his present simple and past simple a number of times but this can be corrected with practice and he should look to pay attention to his pronunciation, in particular, his ‘ed’ endings. Unfortunately, there were a number of interruptions in connection during Mohamad’s interview which may have had an effect on his overall performance.

6.) Ehsan Sadeghi (Level 4)                     64/100

Ehsan’s pronunciation is fine and he included accurate examples of both the present and past simple in his interview. His phrasal verbs were also well used and accurate throughout. Ehsan needs to work on his sentence structure in order to improve the fluency of his speech and could benefit from practising his listening skills as it was necessary for me to rephrase a couple of my questions in order for him to understand what was being asked.

7.) Amin Daryakish (Level 4)                  78/100

Amin is clearly very confident in his understanding of the English language and both understood and spoke well throughout. He has a wide range of vocabulary which helped him to provide interesting and expanded answers. Unfortunately however, Amin failed to use the past simple at any point when he was telling a story about something that happened to him on his last holiday. This is a basic mistake which is disappointing to see when he is so strong in other areas and was probably down to a lack of attention. He also needs to be careful with his pronunciation of the letter ‘w’ and try to avoid pronouncing it as ‘v’.

8.) Somayeh Zahraei Fard (Level 4)                      84 /100

Somayeh spoke with confidence and fluency throughout the interview. Her listening skills are good and her subject verb agreements and sentence structure was very accurate. She also included a conditional form when discussing her plans for the future which is great to see at this level. Somayeh’s pronunciation is generally good but she needs to be careful with specific words such as ‘health’ which was pronounced ‘heelth’. Going forward, she should try to introduce some more complex structures into her speech in order to move to the next level.
