Interview Feedback

29/05/12 AM

1.) Fatemeh Naseri (level 7)

Fatemeh’s pronunciation is good and she spoke in a natural manner with confidence and a high level of fluency throughout the interview. She included some good ‘time buying’ expressions such as ‘let me think...’ and clarified any questions she was unsure about, which shows a nice desire for accuracy. Fatemeh made mistakes in two grammatical areas including the use of the present continuous rather than the present simple when talking about hobbies e.g. ‘they are playing (play) the violin’ and did not use the conditional when expressing something she ‘would like’ to be able to do. She should focus on these two areas going forward.

2.) Sadegh Borzo (level 7)

Sadegh listened carefully to my questions and questioned those he was unsure of. He expanded his answers without encouragement and spoke with fluency and confidence, although he must try to break the habit of saying ‘yes’ at the beginning of each answer. His range of vocabulary is also good.  When expressing something you don’t have to do, he didn’t use the auxiliary verb of do (don’t), which is essential in this sentence so he could do with some practice in this area.

3.) Raebe Hoseini (level 7)

Raebe’s pronunciation is good and she spoke with a high level of fluency and confidence, providing long, detailed answers to my questions. Her vocabulary is of a wide range although she needs to work on not confusing her nouns and adjectives. She must also pay more attention to her use of prepositions which were used incorrectly quite regularly. Although her fluency and confidence is great, she must be sure to still pay attention to her grammatical and lexical accuracy.

4.) Mohamad Reza Abasi (level 7)

Mohamad listened very carefully to my questions and concentrated very hard and took his time when constructing his answers. His pronunciation is fine and he included some good, topic-specific vocabulary. Mohamad needs to spend some time on differentiating his adjectives from his nouns as he confused them on a couple of occasions during the interview. He would also benefit from revising his use of prepositions, particularly ‘with’ which he added unnecessarily into sentences such as ‘I can see if the clothes fit with me’.

5.) Mohamad Ali Tahiri (level 7)

Mohamad listened carefully to my questions and asked for clarification on occasion to ensure he had understood correctly before answering. He self-corrected a subject verb agreement mistake, used some good expressions such as ‘factory-made’ and ‘high in quality’ and included an accurate example of the present perfect. Two areas for Mohamad to work on are paying attention to ensuring he includes articles, where necessary and working on improving his overall pronunciation.

6.) Leila Tavanaei (level 7)

Leila’s pronunciation is fine and she used a number of contractions during the interview which make speech sound a lot more natural. She used a number of gerunds correctly when discussing etiquette and table manners in Iran which worked really well in the context and has a wide range of vocabulary. Unfotunately, Leila forgot to include the main verb on a couple of occasions which affected her overall mark slightly. She must also remember, going forward, that plurals need to be used making generalisations, e.g., ‘woman (women) should not...’.

7.) Sara Ebrahimi (level 7)

Sara has a good range of both general and topic-specific vocabulary and her pronunciation is fine. Her grammar was generally quite accurate but she seemed quite nervous which had an effect on the fluency of her speech and she needs to try harder to expand her answers and not rely on prompts from the interviewer at this level. This may have been a result of nerves but this would be improved by some more speaking practise in her free time as she already possesses enough vocabulary and awareness of sentence structure.

8.) Raziyeh Rozitalab (level 7)

Raziyeh spoke slowly but with confidence during the interview and expanded her answers without being prompted. Her answers were thoughtful and put together with a nice range of vocabulary however Raziyeh needs to pay more attention to her grammar. The two main points for her to focus on at this point would be to ensure she uses the present simple when referring to general rules/repeated actions and to revise her the structure of comparative adjectives.

9.) Mohamad Gholami (level 7)

Mohamad spoke in quite a relaxed manner during his interview and self-corrected a couple of his mistakes. Both his listening skills and his pronunciation are good. Mohamad did make some mistakes with his use of prepositions and was not consistently accurate with his subject verb agreements. These should be his two areas of focus going forward.

10.) Najmeh Rezaei (level 7)

Najmeh has very good listening skills and appeared to be very relaxed when listening to my questions, all of which she fully understood. She has a good range of vocabulary and used both affirmative and negative verbs interchangeably without hesitation. Unfortuately, Najmeh did forget to include the main verb on some occasions and sometimes mixed up the order of her adjective and noun. These are both easy things to remedy with a little revision and more concentration on accuracy.

11.) Saba Basiri (level 6)

Saba’s pronunciation is excellent and she spoke with a very high level of fluency and accuracy throughout. Her bank of vocabulary is very advanced and she was able to include some pre-learned phrases including ‘she counts on me’ and ‘I’m not really keen on...’ with a high level of naturalness and awareness. Generally Saba’s grammar was very accurate although she made a couple of mistakes with prepositions and forgot a few necessary articles.

12.) Reza Zeinali Zadeh (level 7)

Reza concentrated very hard on what I was asking and only slightly misanswered one of my questions. He self-corrected grammatical errors on more than one occasion, which shows a nice attention to detail and he also included some good examples of modals and provided generally very thoughtful answers.  Two areas for Reza to focus on going forward could be to ensure he does not forget to include necessary articles and to spend some time revising his nouns/adjective/verb differentiation.
