Interview Feedback

29/05/12 PM

1.) Nilofar Roshan (level 10)

Nilofar understood my questions well, included a range of vocabulary and self-corrected her grammatical mistakes on a couple of occasions showing a nice attention to detail. Although she answered well generally, she did ask me to change a question she didn’t understand rather than allowing herself the chance to work it out or asking me to rephrase it which she shouldn’t be doing at this level. Going forward she must also revise plural and singular nouns in order to add accuracy to her speech.

2.) Pegah Yosefi (level 10)

Pegah seems to have a good understanding of the use of prepositions and self-corrected grammatical errors on a number of occasions which shows a level of awareness on her part. She also maintained the use of the past simple for all the relevant verbs in her example of a story from the past. Pegah could consider spending a little time on her pronunciation, however, and must learn to use plurals when making generalisations so that her subject verb agreements are correct.

3.) Mohamad Reza Mola (level 10)

Mohamad used the past simple accurately and consistently when referring to an incident in the past and also included a conditional form during his interview. He has a good range of topic-specific vocabulary and occasionally self-corrected his grammatical errors. Two areas on which Mohamad should consider focussing in the future are his use of prepositions and his comparative and superlative adjectives.

4.) Hosein Dehghani (level 10)

Hosein is a very confident speaker who offered, overall, very grammatically accurate and thoughtful answers to my questions. His sentence structure was excellent; he included a range of modal verbs, where appropriate, and displayed a wide range of vocabulary. Although Hosein’s fluency is good, it is affected by his habit of repeating my question in his answers which does not sound very natural to a native speaker and which he should have outgrown by this level. He must also remember not to use definitive articles when talking in generalisations.

5.) Ahmad Reza Habibi (level 10)

Ahmad’s pronunciation is fine and he self-corrected both grammatical and lexical mistakes on more than one occasion. He included and nice range of adverbs of frequency and provided generally, very thoughtful answers. Two areas on which Ahmad should consider focussing is his use of plurals and to ensure he does not unnecessarily include the verb ‘to be’ when using the present simple, which is a commonly made mistake amongst early language learners but should not really be happening at this level.

6.) Meysam Afshar (level 10)

Meysam’s pronunciation is good and he spoke very clearly and concisely throughout the interview. He possesses a wide range of both technical and general vocabulary and provided some very high level responses to my questions including phrases like ‘increased life expectancy’ and ‘to translates their responsibilities’. Unfortunately, I did have to repeat a number of my questions which may have been a result of the connection but developing his listening skills to bring them up to the same level as his other language skills would be my suggestion going forward. He should also try to spend some time concentrating on his subject verb agreements.

7.) Farshid Nahid (level 10)

Farshid appeared to be quite nervous during the interview but he tried hard to provide accurate and interesting answers. His pronunciation is fine and he included some good topic-specific vocabulary. Because of his nerves and his difficulties with sentence structure, Farshid’s speech was quite broken as he worried about presenting his answers accurately. In order to improve, Farshid could spend some time working on his sentence structure and building up his general vocabulary bank. He may also benefit from a bit of extra speaking practice.

8.) Negin Hoseini (level 10)

Negin understood my questions well and was able to present her answers in quite a formal, academic style however, at the same time managed to maintain a level of naturalness in her speech. She used debate-type phrases such as ‘on the one hand...on the other hand...’ and has a good range of vocabulary. Negin’s language skills are generally of a high level however, she must focus on improving the accuracy of her grammar. Two areas in particular include her inaccurate use of the definitive article such as ‘for the people’ and her use of prepositions.

9.) Behzad Momen (level 10)

Behzad’s listening skills are good, and he was able to provide thoughtful, naturally delivered answers with excellent accuracy of sentence structure. His range of vocabulary is also good and his grammar was generally quite accurate. Behzad confused the nouns ‘housework’ and ‘housewife’ which may just have been a slip of attention and would benefit from practising his prepositions. In order to gain higher marks going forward he could also look to include some more complex structures like a conditional or perfect simply to show the examiner what he is capable of.
