Interview Feedback Level 3 Group 2

Marjan Parhizi

Marjan’s pronunciation is good and she used contractions to help her fluency of speech. Her listening skills are well-developed and she expanded her answers in a very natural way. She included good linking words and agreements and some correct examples of the past simple. Marjan must be careful with her use of articles which she sometimes included unnecessarily. She must also revise ways of expressing her hobbies e.g., not using ‘to’ in ‘go to shopping’.

Javad Mirzaee

Javad gave some good responses to my questions and tried hard to expand his answers. He self-corrected his agreement and ordinal number mistakes and included a zero conditional sentence when discussing his free time activities. Javad would benefit from a some work on his listening skills as he did not fully-understand some of my questions and should focus a little more on his pronunciation. He may also like to work towards obtaining more vocabulary as this would allow him to expand his answers in the way he clearly wants to.

Salman Cherik

Salman understood my questions well and was able to provide a wide-range of vocabulary in his answers. His use of negatives and choice of verbs was good and he self-corrected a past simple – past continuous mistake. Unfortunately, Salman made a few mistakes with is use of he/she subjects which he will really need to remedy moving forward. He could also look to include some more complex grammatical forms in the future as this would increase his mark and would be more in-line with his level of vocabulary.

Behnaz Motazedian

Behnaz was a very confident speaker who used articles and agreements accurately. She self-corrected a countable/uncountable noun quantifier mistake and her listening skills were good. Behnaz’s speech was very rehearsed, and seemed quite unnatural as a result. Although pre-learned phrases and expressions are very useful, particularly at this level, she must make sure she is not using too many. She must also be careful with her use of his/her.

Ghazal Sabet

Ghazal’s pronunciation, listening and speaking skills were all very good and she clearly feels very relaxed communicating in English. She used modals for advice and some nice, informal vocabulary, including ‘coach potato’. The areas in which Ghazal could improve include her used of prepositions, quantifiers and expressing her likes and dislikes e.g., when and when not to use infinitive + to/gerund.

Mandana Derafsh

Mandana’s listening skills are good and she is a confident communicator in English. Her pronunciation is fine and she used a nice mixture of adverbs of frequency and modifiers. Unfortunately, Mandana did not seem to push herself and did not attempt to expand her answers. As a result, I was unable to experience the full range of her language ability, which she really must try to do next time, and she lost marks as a result.

Negin Dejam

Negin’s listening skills were quite good and she included a good range of adverbs and expressions of frequency. Her agreements were accurate and she used ‘ago’ and ‘since’ correctly on more than one occasion. Negin forgot a couple of the main verbs in her answers which she will need to pay more attention to in the future. She must also try a little harder to expand her answers, without prompt.

Parsa Biparva

Parsa listened carefully to my questions and was able to understand them, without difficulty. He spoke in a natural manner and his pronunciation was fine. Parsa needs to spend some time working on his use of articles and prepositions as a number of his errors were a result of these. He must also watch out for mistakes with plural nouns e.g., childrens’.

Hamide Moosavi

Hamide understood my questions well and took his time to carefully put together his reply, which was great. His range of vocabulary was good and he used a couple of different examples of adverbs of frequency. Hamide must be careful not to add the verb ‘to be’ unnecessarily and will need to push himself to further-expand his answers in future interviews.

Narjes Moosavi

Narjes’s pronunciation is fine and she was clearly willing to expand her answers but was held back from doing so by a lack of vocabulary.  As a priority, Narsjes should definitely focus on obtaining a wider range of vocabulary and must then look to produce the present simple correctly. She would really benefit from some extra help with sentence structure.

Vahid Ghahremani

Vahid’s listening skills are good and he was able to answer my questions without confusion. He provided accurate examples of the past simple and comparative adjectives but must be careful not to use articles when he doesn’t need to. He would also benefit from some further study of preposition usage and should pay closer attention to his use of ‘he’/’she’.

Nasrin Bahram Zade

Nasrim is a confident speaker and was keen to expand her answers as much as possible. Generally her pronunciation was fine although she did mix up ‘noise’ and ‘nose’ when describing her parents’ appearances. She also included an accurate comparative adjective. Nasrin started a lot of her responses with a repetition of my question e.g., ‘about my parents..’ which she must try to avoid in the future as it sounds quite unnatural. She must also remember that age take the verb ‘to be’ and not ‘to have’.

Fatemah Hoseini Poor

Fatemah’s pronunciation is fine and she was able to provide me with the days of the week and most the months of the year in the correct order. Unfortunately she was unable to understand the majority of my questions and those that she did were difficult for her to provide a suitable answer for as a result of a lack of vocabulary. Obtaining more basic vocabulary should be Fatemah’s priority at this point. She would also benefit from some basic listening practice.

Yasaman Jahan Bakhsh

Yasaman used contractions throughout the interview which made the flow of her speech sound quite natural. She self-corrected a few of her mistakes and was able to provide a number of different examples of expressions and adverbs of frequency. Yasaman has a wide range of vocabulary and, as a result, should push herself more to further-expand her answers.  If she had done this, she would have obtained a slightly higher mark. She must also remember to include a noun after an article and adjective e.g., ‘I’m a sporty (person)’.

Abas Motamed Poor

Abas’ sentence structure is good and he understood most of my questions without difficulty. He included a number of pre-learned, pre-rehearsed phrases but was able to do so in a very natural manner so they sounded very effective. Going forward, Abas must make sure he doesn’t confuse his nouns and his adjectives e.g., ‘musician’ and ‘musical’ and has to start using pronouns rather than repeating a the subject when describing things/people.

Setare Dorostkari

Setare’s pronunciation is good and her listening skills are very strong. Her sentence structure was generally very good and she was able to include some nice expressions and an accurate regular past simple. Going forward, I would advise Setare to spend some time learning irregular past simple verbs such as ‘teach’ – ‘taught’ and revising the use of modifiers N.B – ‘Too much’ = a problem.

Amir Arsalan Hejazi

Amir understood my questions well and took his time to think carefully about his answers. He expanded his responses without hesitation and his subject verb agreements were accurate throughout. Amir must be careful to include the main verb in sentence as he missed it on a couple of couple of occasions during the interview. He must also work towards differentiating between adverbs and adjectives, e.g., ‘loudly’ and ‘loud’.

Mohammadamin Badakhshan

Mohammadamin understood my questions well and took time to think carefully about his replies. He used a number of pre-learned phrases during the interview but was able to include them such a way as to make his speech sound quite natural. However, he must be careful not to include too many in his interviews going forward. He should now look to try and incorporate some slightly more complex forms into his speech such as the past simple and the present continuous.

Masood Ghodrat

Masood’s pronunciation is very good and his overall fluency is of a very high standard. He was able to listen to and understand my questions easily and accurately included a number of different structures and devices including ‘used to’ and the past simple. He also showed knowledge of a wide-range of expressions and adverbs of frequency. Going forward, I would recommend Masood look to challenge himself further by including some even more complex forms of language.

Peyman Taheri

Peyman’s listening skills are very good although he didn’t seem to be very confident of his listening ability. He provided a good use of negatives and prepositions and some different adverbs and expressions of frequency. Peyman struggled slightly when he was unable to remember of provide a pre-rehearsed response to my questions so I would advise him to spend some time on sentence structure. He must also remember the importance of subject verb agreements.

Leila Nategh

Leila understood my questions without difficulty and was able to provide pre-learned, but very naturally-used responses. Her range of vocabulary is fine for this level but she must be careful not to use articles with adjectives and should watch her pronunciation e.g., ‘height’ was pronounced ‘hate’ and ‘singer’ as ‘single’. Some more speaking practice and some closer attention to correct word choice should help solve this problem.

Adele Solh Joo

Adele’s pronunciation is good and she both understood and responded to my questions with a high level of fluency. Her answers were well-thought out, her expressions of frequency were varied and her range of vocabulary was good. Although Adele self-corrected her mistake between ‘his’/’her’, she should spend some time focussing on ensuring her subject verb agreements are accurate. In order to further improve her mark, she could also look to include some more complex forms of language such as a past or future tense.
