Interview Feedback Level 4 Group 53

Fateme Negahban

Fateme’s pronunciation is very good and she was able to describe her daily routine with the use of accurate phrasal verbs and possessive pronouns. Although she understood the majority of my questions, she did misanswer on one occasion as a result of not having understood the question. She didn’t use the past simple when talking about a past experience on vacation which she really must be including in her speaking at this point.

Mojtaba Rooin Ahli

Mojtaba’s listening improved as the interview went on and he was able to provide some accurate examples of the past simple and phrasal verbs with personal pronouns when talking about a past experience and his daily routine. Mojtaba did, however make a couple of grammatical mistakes when discussing his free time activities and should spend some time practising his verb + infinitive/gerund structures.

Omidraza Gholami

Omidraza understood my questions well and was able to include a couple of accurate examples of both regular and irregular past simple verbs as well as a ‘going to’ future and a second-conditional which are fantastic to see at this level. Omidreza must work on his use of prepositions and needs to push himself to further-develop his answers without having to be prompted.

Fateme Monajati

Fateme spoke with confidence throughout the interview and presented a wide range of vocabulary and some very accurate grammar, particularly the past simple, which was maintained right through her story of a past experience. Unfortunately however, Fateme’s responses were a little over-rehearsed and sounded very unnatural as a result. It was also to difficult to assess how much of her accuracy was down to having learned her responses by heart and how much of this was her language ability.

Keyhan Karami

Keyhan’s pronunciation is fine and he was able to provide a wide range of phrasal verbs and adverbs and expressions of frequency during his description of a typical day. He used a couple of examples of the past simple but unfortunately, did not remain in it for the entirety of his story of a past experience. He must remember how important it is to do this and should also consider pushing himself a little harder to provide more detailed answers in the future.

Elham Degh

Elham was very good at expressing what she likes to do with her free time and used some examples of past simple accurately when talking about an event in the past. She made the very basic mistake of using the verb ‘to have’ with age which she should not be doing at this level. She should also try to stop the habit of saying ‘yes’ at the end of each question, before providing her answer.

Mohammadreza Karami

Mohammadreza’s pronunciation is good and spoke confidently and listened carefully to my questions, clarifying meaning when necessary. His description of a typical day was detailed and very grammatically accurate. Going forward, Mohammadreza should look to try and include some more complex forms in his speech such as a future or conditional in order to obtain even higher marks.

Mohammad Khorram

Mohammad struggled with the interview as he was unable to understand a large majority of my questions and was held back from answering the ones he did comprehend in depth due to a lack of vocabulary. He provided some accurate examples of the past simple which is good and self-corrected a present simple – past simple mistake. Mohammad needs to get some listening practice in his free time and should try to obtain some more basic vocabulary.

Mehdi Dastfard

Mehdi’s interview was interrupted slightly by some sound problems but he was still able to communicate in a relaxed manner. He used accurate phrasal verbs and regular and irregular past simple as well as some nice, informal vocabulary. Mehdi’s answers were quite short so he should look to try and further-expand these going forward. He also had some problems understanding some of my questions but this may have been a result of the sound issues.

Ramin Imani

Ramin included a good mix of vocabulary in his interview, including some quite natural, informal expressions such as, ‘ I’m an evening person’. His phrasal verbs were generally accurate and he used the past simple to tell me about a past vacation. However, Ramin needs to listen more carefully to what he is being asked and try to work through the question himself without having to immediately ask for a repetition which he did regularly throughout the interview. He must also work to further-expand his answers.

Amin Taghizade

Amin was able to provide a number of past simple verbs, both regular and irregular and correctly differentiated between the need for present continuous when describing what he was wearing at that moment and the past simple to describe what he usually wears. Amin seemed slightly uninterested in the interview and appeared unwilling to expand his answers without having to be push. Although there were some sound issues during his interview which undoubtedly affected his listening, he should work harder to try and work through the questions he doesn’t understand or clarify what he thinks is being asked.

Zeynab Nematolahi

Zeynab’s pronunciation is fine and she was able to include some past simple verbs when talking about a past experience. She talked about her hobbies without too much difficulty but was held back by a lack of basic vocabulary. Increasing this should be her first priority. She should also look to get some further listening practice, whenever possible.

Paria Khoshno

Paria understood all of my questions without difficulty and was able to provide accurate examples of comparative adjectives and an overall good sentence structure. Unfortunately however, Paria’s answers were very short and she did not seem willing to further-develop her responses, even when pushed. This is a shame as she didn’t allow herself the opportunity to show me the full extent of her language ability.

Mostafa Bagheri

Mostafa’s pronunciation is good and he listened carefully to my questions and clarified meaning when necessary which shows a nice attention to detail. His range of vocabulary is good and he maintained the past simple through his story of a past holiday experience. Mostafa needs to be careful with his plurals and subject verb agreements going forward.

Zahra Aghaee

Zahra seemed quite nervous during the interview but tried hard to expand her answers. She expressed her free time activities well and her subject verb agreements were usually accurate. Zahra must try to get some more listening practice, when possible and should spend some time on the use of prepositions and trying to obtain some more basic vocabulary.

Zoleikha Ahmadi

Zoleikha clearly feels very relaxed communicating in English and both listened and spoke in a very natural manner. Her range of vocabulary was excellent and she included an accurate example of the first conditional. Going forward, Zoleikha could consider working on her pronunciation slightly and she must make sure remains in the past simple throughout the entire story of a past experience.

Reza Keshavarz

Reza listened to my questions with ease and included some accurate examples of both regular and irregular past simple. He is confident in his speaking skills but really must push himself to expand his answers without having to be pushed. This will allow him to show the examiner what he is really capable of and lost him marks on this occasion. He should look to spend some time differentiating between the use of ‘some’ and ‘any’.

Mehdi Askari

Mehdi’s listening skills are good and he was able to respond in a clear and thoughtful way. His range of vocabulary is very broad and he used the past simple well when referring to a past vacation. Mehdi should look to spend some time revising his prepositions e.g., ‘it depends on (not ‘of)’ and must be careful with his subject verb agreements.

Hasan Mardane

Hasan has excellent listening skills and speaks English with a high level of fluency. He used a good variety of vocabulary and was keen to show what he was capable of by expanding his answers, where possible. His prepositions were also accurate, which is a very difficult area to master. Going forward, I would suggest Hasan revise his countable and uncountable noun quantifiers (much and many) and must not use the present perfect to talk about the fact that he is married. e.g., ‘I have got married’.

Mohammad Jeyrani

Mohammad understood my questions well and his description of a typical day was detailed, grammatically accurate and used a number of linking devices such as ‘then’ and ‘after that’. Mohammad used the past simple to talk about a past vacation but must make sure to remain in this tense throughout the story. He may also want to consider trying some more complex structures such as a conditional or a simple future to increase his marks even more in future interviews.

Mina Jeyrani

Mina’s pronunciation is good and she maintained the past simple throughout her tale of a past vacation. She included an example of the ‘going to’ future and a future expression ‘I’m looking to...’ both of which were accurate and are fantastic to see at this level. Going forward, I would suggest Mina try to expand her answers a little more, without the need of a prompt.
