Interview Feedback Level 4 Group 3

Neda Hashemzade

Neda expanded her answers well and was able to describe a typical morning using accurate phrasal verbs and a variety of continuation words such as ‘after that’...and ‘and then...’. Neda worked through any answers she didn’t immediately understand but may benefit from some additional listening practice. She must also take to care to include ‘to’ with the infinitive when talking about things she likes to do.

Sozan Farbodan

Sozan described her daily routine well and used a variety of adverbs of frequency. She also used the past simple to talk about a past vacation and maintained it throughout. Unfortunately, Sozan did misunderstand a couple of my questions so should consider some listening practice. She must also try to push herself harder to expand her responses without having to be pushed.

Marziye Haghighat Ziya

Marziye understood my questions well and her grammar was generally, very accurate. She has a good range of vocabulary and was able to provide a considerable number of adverbs and expressions of frequency when discussing her hobbies and daily routine. Marziye made a couple of mistakes with not putting ‘s’ on the end of her nouns to make plurals and should try not to confuse the word order ‘hotel reservation’.

Maryam Haghighat Ziya

Maryam’s pronunciation is good and used a good mix of adverbs of frequency and phrasal verbs to describe a typical day. She self-corrected a subject verb agreement mistake and was able to expand her answers naturally. Maryam made some mistakes with plural nouns and articles and forgot the verb ‘to be’ on occasion.

Zahra Arjomandi

Zahra’use of phrasal verbs for her daily routine was good, and she showed a good understanding of –ed/-ing adjectives. She was able to provide some interesting ways of remaining healthy and she developed her response without having to be encouraged. Unfortunately, Zahra made a few mistakes with plurals and articles which she should look work on going forward and must remember to use ‘... times a week’ rather than ‘...times in a week.’.

Atlas Deghani

Atlas gave a nice introduction and understood my questions without the need for repetition. She included some pre-learned phrases which worked well but struggled to provide a response if she was unable to remember then one she had memorised. I would certainly recommend Atlas spends some time on learning more about sentence structure to give herself more confidence in putting together her own sentences. She also regularly forgot the verb ‘to be’ and other main verbs which she will have to address as a priority.

Maryam Frootan

Maryam repeated my questions to herself in order to try and understand them, rather than immediately asking for a repetition which is good to see. She tried hard to provide suitable answers but the accuracy of her general grammar was low. She was unable to form the past simple correctly when discussing a previous holiday, although she did try, and sometimes used the past simple form of verbs when talking in the present. She must focus her time on improving her basic grammar if she wants to progress.

Fakherh Namdar

Fakherh’s answers were expanded well and her range of vocabulary and sentence structure is good. She also has a good awareness of when and when not to use the infinitive with ‘to’. Fakherh made the common mistake of confusing ‘teach’ and ‘learn’ and used ‘soon’ with ‘get up’, rather than ‘early’. Going forward she should try to show more examples of the past simple.

Bahareh Sasanipor

Bahareh’s range of vocabulary is good and she was able to provide a nice range of expressions and adverbs of frequency. She clarified my questions to ensure she had fully understood what was being asked and used modals of obligation to talk about standards of dress in Iran. Bahareh made a few mistakes with quantifiers; using ‘very’ to mean ‘lots of’ and ‘very much’ to mean ‘a lot’. She should spend some time correcting this.

Maryam Ariyanfar

Maryam has obtained a good level of vocabulary and was able to produce it accurately constructed sentences. She is very confident in both her listening and speaking but must be sure to still listen carefully. She must try to remember that adjectives go before and not after nouns and should use ‘have to’ or ‘must’ rather than ‘could’ to talk about things which are obligatory.

Sara Bahami

Sara’s pronunciation is good and she took her time to check she had understood my questions and produce her answers. Unfortunately her answers were very short, sometimes just one word. Although she did say she was nervous, she must push herself to at least try to expand because I was unable to see what she is actually capable of. She needs a lot of listening and speaking practice to try and increase her confidence and must remember that adjectives come before verbs.

Reza Akramzade

Reza’s pronunciation was fine and he spoke in quite a natural manner. He used a couple of examples of the past simple and included modals for possibility when talking about the flexibility of casual clothes for men. Reza struggled to understand some of my questions and had to be pushed to expand some of his responses. He should work on both of these areas going forward.

Mahsa Golkar

Mahsa tried hard to expand her answers and included some nicely delivered, pre-learned phrases which worked well. Her phrasal verbs and expressions and adverbs of frequency for discussing routine were fine. Mahsa needs to spend some time working on her sentence structure and expanding her range of vocabulary. She must also be aware of the difference between modal verbs ‘should’ for a good idea/recommendation and ‘have to/must’ for obligation.

Samira Khoshgo

Samira had clearly memorised a lot of her answers which meant that her overall grammar was very accurate. She managed to deliver her pre-learned responses in a natural way, which is good, but should try to allow herself more freedom in the future which would make her speech a lot more natural. She used modals for possibility and self-corrected some of her mistakes. She should listen carefully to the questions rather than just picking up on keywords and providing the answer she has learned as it may not have been exactly what the examiner had been asking.

Fatemeh Forozan

Fatemeh gave some good examples of what she does in her free time although she must remember to include the definite article when talking about places in the town e.g., the park. She seemed nervous and was only able to provide very short answers so I would recommend she spend some time obtaining some more vocabulary and practicing sentence structure so she will have more confidence in the future. She would also benefit from some listening practice.

Manistar Maliferdoni

Manistar used a good range of adverbs of frequency to talk about what she does in her free time and used some phrasal verbs to talk about her daily routine. She must remember not to include the verb ‘to be’ unnecessarily e.g., ‘I’m get up...’ and should spend some time practising her –ed/-ing adjectives. A general review of basic grammar would help Manistar improve.

Somayeh Maktabdar

Amir Mohammad Bamshad

Amir’s pronunciation is good and his use of phrasal verbs and adverbs and expressions of frequency were very accurate. His listening skills are well-developed he used the past simple consistently when discussing a previous holiday. Amir must remember to include the ‘s’ on ‘it depends on...’ and should remember ‘can’ is used for ability; ‘could’ for possibility.

Mohammad Ali Golbahar Haghighi

Mohammad Ali is a confident listener who used phrasal verbs and expressions of frequency well. He used the past simple to talk about a past vacation and maintained it throughout. His understanding of the English language is good but he should push himself harder to provide more detailed answers in order to show examiners what he is really capable of. He must also remember the agreements with the expression ‘it depends on...’.

Shahla Rezai

Shahla’s phrasal verbs for discussing her daily routine were good and she used the past simple to talk about a previous vacation, maintaining it throughout. She self-corrected a couple of mistakes but forgot some of the main verbs in her sentences which she will need to improve on. She must also be sure not to include the verb ‘to be’ unnecessarily.

Zahra Sorinejad

Zahra used the past simple to talk about a past vacation and her use of possessive pronouns was excellent.  Her range of vocabulary is good and she was able to use modal verbs to talk about obligations. Going forward, I would encourage Zahra to focus on her use of verbs + gerund/infinitive + to.

Bnyamin Beygi

Bnyamin’s phrasal verbs were fine and he understood my questions without difficulty. Unfortunately, Bnyamin did not appear to try particularly hard to push himself during the interview and provided very short answers. He confused ‘informal’ with ‘formal’ and ‘almost’ with ‘most’. He must also remember to use the past simple when referring to a completed action or activity in the past.
