Interview Feedback Level 10 Group 1

Ayda Hajiri

Ayda’s pronunciation is good and she understood my questions well, without the need for repetition. She expanded her answers and included some accurate past simple and passive forms. A couple of areas Ayda should concentrate on are her use of plurals, her countable and uncountable nouns and be careful to confuse the verbs ‘to buy’ and ‘to shop’.

Nazanin Mohammadi

Nazanin used the past simple well, when necessary and used some quite natural language, including ‘ads’ instead of ‘advertisements’. She also used modal verbs well. Nazanin had obviously memorised a lot of her responses which resulted in quite accurate language but she must be careful that doing this does not remove the naturalness. She must also revise when to use gerunds and when to use the infinitive with ‘to’.

Davood Fazil Golestani

Davood used comparative adjectives and the past simple accurately and understood my questions well. He used an excellent example of wish + past simple which was great. Davood must look to spend some time improving his sentence structure and should be careful not to confuse his adjectives e.g., ‘lonely’ and ‘alone’.

Mahmood Torabi

Mahmood tried hard to expand his answers and provided some good examples of modal verbs for obligation. He also included some memorised responses such as ‘we shop to indulge ourselves’ which sounded good and were used well. Unfortunately, Mahmood struggled with his sentence structure which affected the flow of his speech and often forgot to include the verb ‘to be’. He must also try to listen more carefully so as not to mis-answer the question.

Elham Karampor

Elham’s pronunciation is fine but she struggled so provide responses to my questions as she was unable to understand what was being asked. Her first priority should be to spend some time studying basic grammar such as the need for plurals and subject verb agreements. She would also benefit from trying to get as much extra listening practice as possible.

Pariya Shabani

Pariya’s subject verb agreements were good and she understood all of my questions without difficulty. She also has a good range of vocabulary. She used rehearsed responses on a number of occasions which worked but she must be careful not to do this too often. Some areas for Pariya to work on in the future would include trying to trust her own ability to construct her own, more natural responses and her use of comparative adjectives.

Navid Rahimi Bakhshandeh          ABSENT/100

Saeed Daneshvar

Saeed has a good range of vocabulary and provided examples of both irregular and regular past simple verbs. He was able to understand all of my questions without difficulty and his sentence structure was generally, fairly good. Unfortunately, Saeed seemed quite nervous in the interview and his speech was quite broken up as a result which is a shame because he clearly has a decent level of understanding in English. He should try to get as much specking practice into his free time as possible. He must also be careful with his subject verb agreements.

Rasool Rezai

Rasool’s pronunciation is good and he has a very good range of vocabulary. He included accurate examples of both regular and irregular past simple verbs. Although Rsaool’s fluency is quite good, his general accuracy needs quite a bit of work. He should start with making sure he does not forget to include the main verb in his sentence and should try not to use the past simple form of a verb when talking in the present tense. He would also benefit from spending some time on prepositions.

Alireza Pakbazi

Alireza did fantastically in the interview. His range of vocabulary, his sentence structure, his use of prepositions and his overall accuracy were all excellent and showed a considerable understanding of the English language. A couple of areas for him to attend to going forward is to ensure he does not include the verb ‘to be’ with ‘I am agree’ and to remember that numbers are not dealt with as plurals e.g., ‘3 millions’. He struggled with is pronunciation of ‘significantly’, which can easily be fixed.

Sepideh Sameti

Sepideh understood my questions well and developed her responses in an interesting and thoughtful manner. She included and good mix of vocabulary and a passive structure but should consider working on her use of prepositions. She should also be sure not to confuse the verbs ‘to take’ and ‘to get’.

Ali Deghan

Ali understood my questions well and used the past simple well, when required. His use of superlative adjectives was good, and provided some well-formed, interesting sentences. Ali struggled to expand his answers on occasion, which he should certainly try to work ongoing forward and must be careful with use of prepositions.

Negar Mohammadi

Negar’s pronunciation is good and she understood my questions well, even when I spoke at a faster pace. She has good understanding of the use of prepositions and maintained the past simple, when necessary. She confused the noun ‘medicine’ with the adjective ‘medical’, which is a simple mistake to correct but should look to include some more complex forms such as a future, conditional or perfect going forward.

Mahshad Sarkobi

Mahshad was clearly keen to provide more detailed answers to my questions, which she did when she understood what I was asking. Unfortunately though, she was held back not being able to fully-understand my questions and by a lack of confidence and possibly, vocabulary, to complete the sentences she had started. As a priority, Mahshad should get as much listening and speaking practice as she can and should consider revising her sentence structure, which may also give her more confidence in completing her sentences.

Nazanin Golchinfard

Nazanin, pronunciation was fine and she understood most of my questions. She used the past simple to talk about a past event which she maintained throughout the story. Unfortunately, there were considerable internet connection issues during the interview so I was unable to get a full-assessment of her capabilities. It would be advisable to hold the interview again so as to give more accurate feedback.

Mohammad Ali Sharifi Ghasemi

Mohammad Ali’s range of vocabulary is good and he used the past simple well when talking about a dangerous activity he had done. His introduction was good and he expanded his answers well, whenever possible. Unfortunately however, Mohammad Ali was unable to understand my question of advice for tourists and mis-answered one about violence in movies so some extra listening practice may be helpful going forward. His speech was also quite hesitant which affected fluency.

Gholam Reza Afrasiyabi

Gholam put a lot of effort into his interview and was able to include some accurate examples of the present perfect and past simple which is great to see at this level. He also has a good range of vocabulary. Gholam misunderstood a couple of my questions so should think about organising some extra listening practice when he can, and should take more care over making sure plurals are used, when necessary.

Hamid Shiri

Hamid gave a nice introduction to himself and was able to provide some good examples of what he does in his free time. He used modals verbs to discuss appropriate topics for discussion but confused the words ‘appropriate’ and ‘inappropriate’, which is a small, but important mistake. Hamid seemed quite nervous when speaking so should try and get a little more speaking and listening practice in his free time.

Maryam Haghmanesh

Maryam expanded her answers well and used the past simple of regular and irregular verbs without difficulty. She used modal verbs to talk about appropriate and inappropriate topics of conversation and self-corrected a subject verb agreement mistake. Maryam needs to spend some time revising when and when not to use the definite and indefinite article and should try to use ‘would’ rather than will when talking about hypothetical situations such as ‘What advice would you give someone visiting your country for the first time?’.

Sorosh Sarvghad

Sorosh’s pronunciation is fine and he used some good modal verbs to talk about the importance of knowing about other cultures. He included some good, pre-learned responses and introductions to his answers which worked well and sounded natural. I really had to push Sorosh to get him to expand his answers which he should be doing, without encouragement in an interview situation. He misunderstood a couple of my questions and confused his adjectives and nouns, on occasion.

Mohammad Sarkari              ABSENT

Mohammad Golrolhiyan

Mohammad understood my questions well and has a good range of vocabulary. He included a lot of memorised responses but did so well and made them sound very natural. This resulted in the overall accuracy of his speech being very good, particularly his use of verb + gerund/infinitive. Going forward, Mohammad should challenge himself not to rely so much on the revised responses and must remember the importance of including the main verb.
