Interview Feedback Level 13, 8, 4

 Saeed Torfehnejad

Saeed understood my questions well and has a well-developed bank of vocabulary. His pronunciation is good and he used to past simple appropriately. He would benefit from spending some time revising his use of prepositions and made a few he/she and his/her mistakes, which are easy to correct.

Ali Ghaedi

Ali understood my questions well and provided lots of accurate examples of irregular and regular past simple. He self-corrected a lot of his mistakes which shows a nice attention to detail and used prepositions well. Ali made some mistake with his sentence structure so would benefit from spending some time focussing on this area. He also confused his –ed/-ing adjectives on a couple of occasions.

Ali Reza Alinejad

Ali Reza’s pronunciation and range of vocabulary were both fine and he was able to discuss addictions in a detailed and interesting way. He also used modals when talking about how we can help people suffering from serious addictions. Ali Reza made a couple of mistakes with his –ed/-ing adjectives which he will need to review and must remember the importance of using the past simple when talking about a fixed time in the past.

Mojtaba Iranbastan

Mojtaba has an excellent range of vocabulary which was able to put to good use during the interview. He clarified some of my questions to ensure he was proving an accurate response, which shows a nice attention to detail, and both spoke and listened with confidence throughout. Mojtabe would benefit from spending some time revising his use of prepositions and must be careful not to mix his present simple and past simple form of verbs.

Shiva Roshanzamir

Shiva understood my questions well and was able to provide some accurate examples of the past simple and present perfect continuous, which is great to see. She spoke about the various steps we should take to help someone with an addiction well. Shiva appeared to be quite nervous in the interview and spoke very quickly, using pre-rehearsed responses. Although these memorised responses will help give her confidence at this point, she must be sure to use less of them to make her speech more natural. Some further speaking practice would also help.

Elham Masomi

Elham understood my questions without difficulty and was able to provide accurate examples of the past simple and the past continuous. She spoke slowly and took time with her answers, which is fine but she seemed quite nervous and the fluency of what she was saying was lost by so many ‘erm..erm...’ sounds. Elham must try to get some more speaking practice in her free time to try and increase her confidence. Grammatically, she should look to improve her use of prepositions.

Mahmod Hoseini

Mahmod’s range of vocabulary is good and he spoke with a high level of fluency. He self-corrected one of his subject verb agreement mistakes and but generally the accuracy of Mahmod’s grammar was poor. Although having the confidence to speak is great, he must take more time over ensuring his basic grammar is correct including simple errors such as ‘I’m 41 years’ and subject verb agreements with the verb ‘to be’.

Mahnaz Khademi

Mahnaz has good pronunciation and self-corrected a number of her mistakes which shows a nice attention to detail. She used the past simple and modal verbs for suggesting and advice, well. Going forward, Mahnaz should try to include some more advanced structures in her speech such as a basic future or present perfect in order to try and obtain higher marks. She must also spend some time revising verb + gerund/infinitive structures for expressing hobbies and interests.

Mohammadhosein Etminan

Mohammadhosein spoke with a high level of confidence and clearly feels at ease communicating in English. His sentence structure was excellent and he used prepositions very well. Mohammadhosein should get used to explaining words in other ways if he cannot remember the exact words from the book, which he is more than capable of. He must also be aware that the structure ‘If I had to...I would...’, uses ‘had’ and not ‘have’ but this still a very advanced structure for this level.

Hamid Farahmand                        ABSENT

Arman Rastegari

Arman understood my questions well and he included some quite complex forms including an accurate second conditional. He spoke about the benefits of the internet is great detail and provided some really interesting and accurate language but he later struggled to find the vocabulary to talk in detail about natural disasters. He would also benefit from spending some time revising his use of prepositions.

Ali Khosravifard

Ali’s sentence structure and vocabulary were very good and he was able to use a variety of expressions and adverbs of frequency to talk about free time activities. He seemed slightly nervous during the interview which may be a reason for his short answers but he is certainly able to develop his responses further. Some speaking practice would enable to feel more confident doing this and he should remember to use ‘could’ and not ‘can’ when talking about what he could do to help someone affected by a natural disaster.

Behnam Mohammadi

Behnam’s pronunciation is good and he used some good modal verbs to talk about ways to prepare for a natural disaster, although it would have been better for him to use ‘would’ rather than ‘will’ to talk about what he would do to help a person affected by a natural disaster. He seemed to find it quite difficult to structure sentences confidently so this is an area he should focus on going forward. He must also remember to use plurals and no articles when speaking generally.

Mohammadali Mirshamsi

Mohammadali was able to give a detailed account of what he would do to prepare for a natural disaster and used some really good staging language such as ‘first of all...’ and ‘then I...’ which worked well. Although his sentence structure was generally ok, he did struggle to finish some of his sentences on occasion which may have been a result of a lack of confidence with structure, or the inability to remember the vocabulary he wanted to use. He must also remember to use the past simple when talking about completed actions in the past.

Farzane Mirkhani

Farzane’s pronunciation is good she has a good range of vocabulary. She expanded her answers well, without encouragement and used prepositions without difficulty. Going forward she must work on her use of plurals and must remember that ‘to be’ is not required when agreeing or disagreeing e.g., ‘I’m agree with you.’

Maryam Javdi

Maryam used the past simple when required and included a variety of expressions and adverbs of frequency. She clarified my questions to check she was providing the correct response, which is good and used comparative adjectives well. Going forward, Maryam must work on her use of superlative adjectives and her subject verb agreements. She also forget the verb ‘to be’ on a couple of occasions.

Sana Basiri               ABSENT

Saba Basiri

Saba was very keen to show me what she was capable of and worked hard to provide detailed and well-developed answers to my questions. She included some accurate, quite advanced forms including the second and third conditional and has a wide range of vocabulary. A couple of areas for Saba to work on include her use of comparative adjectives and the need for ‘would’ rather than ‘will’ for hypothetical situations.

Mhabobe Arabnejad

Mhabobe used the past simple well, when required and was able to provide some detailed information about how we should prepare for a natural disaster. Unfortunately, Mhabobe seemed slightly nervous and mumbled slightly as a result which sometimes made it quite difficult to understand what he was saying. He should try and get a little more speaking practice when he can and should try to speak a little more clearly. He would also benefit from spending a bit of time working on his use of prepositions.

Frod Ilani                  ABSENT

Aslan Ghorbani      ABSENT

Hosein Rezai

Hosein was able to tell me about a couple of things he does in his free time and the kind of places he goes to on vacation. He also used some phrasal verbs when talking about his daily routine. Unfortunately, Hosein mis-understood a couple of my questions and his answers were very short. He needs to spend some time of differentiating between nouns and adjectives and obtaining more vocabulary to allow himself the chance to expand his answers.
