Interview Feedback Level 4 Group 5,6

Majid Hosseini    ABSENT

Mehrdad Nematolahi

Mehrdad has good pronunciation and provided very natural and well-developed answers to my questions. He has a good range of vocabulary and his sentence structure is generally quite accurate. He must be careful not to use the verb ‘to be’ unnecessarily and needs to be aware of the difference between ‘too + adjective’ and ‘very + adjective’.

Shahriyar Khosravi

Shahriyar understood my questions well and self-corrected a couple of mistakes which shows a nice attention to detail. His used of prepositions was good and he was able to use comparative adjectives accurately. Shahriayr made a couple of mistakes with is choice of words. For example, he used ‘reaction on...’ rather than ‘effect on...’ and ‘all of the people’ instead of ‘everyone’. He must also remember to include a definitive article when talking about places in the town, e.g., ‘the gym’.

Gholamreza Mansouri

Gholamreza was able to provide some good, memorised reasons for why he prefers modern medicine and why he thought the internet was the most important invention, including accurate superlatives. He tried hard to expand his answers but was held back by a lack of vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structure, including forgetting the main verb so should make work on these areas as a priority going forward.

Mohamad Karim Jannati Jahromi

Mohamad Karim’s use of comparative adjectives was good and he was able to provide some nice responses to my questions, including a range of modal verbs for different uses. Unfortunately, he did not use the past simple to talk about something he did last year and seemed quite nervous when it came to understanding my questions. I would recommend he look to get some extra listening practice and revise the past simple.

Mandana Abbasi

Mandana’s pronunciation is good and she a couple of past simple verbs when talking about something she did last Friday. Unfortunately she did misunderstand a couple of my questions which resulted in her providing incorrect answers and struggled to response to some of those she did understand. Mandana should try and get some more speaking practice in her free time and spending some time looking at sentence structure may give her a little more confidence in the future.

Shahram Karimi

Shahram understood my questions without any difficulty and was able to provide detailed responses. Her topic-specific vocabulary is good but she must spend some time working on her subject verb agreements and her use of plurals.

Mohammad Hossein Amidi

Mohammad self-corrected a couple of his mistakes, namely a present/past simple and a subject verb agreement error. He included a present continuous and appears to have a good understanding of the use of some common prepositions in English. Going forward, I would recommend Mohammad spend a little time working on his use of plural and singular nouns and take care not confuse his nouns and verbs such as ‘fun’ and ‘laugh’.

Mojtaba Zare

Mojtaba’s pronunciation is fine and he was able to use some good topic-specific vocabulary when talking about desirable hotel facilities. Unfortunately, he was unable to understand a number of my questions and required a lot of repetitions. His answers were very short and I regularly had to ask ‘why?’ in order to get him to expand. Mojtaba needs to spend some time taking on some more vocabulary and should try and review his basic grammatical structures when he has some free time.

Hamed Kazemi

Hamed understood my questions without the need for repetition and was able to provide relevant answers using some good topic-specific vocabulary. Hamed must spend some time working on his sentence structure and be aware that providing a list of vocabulary, such as desirable hotel facilities is not enough without some kind of structure to his sentence. He seemed quite nervous and was only able to provide short answers as a result.

Amir Koei

Amir provided a nice, detailed introduction and was able to understand most of my questions without difficulty. He used some good adjectives but must be careful not to confuse nouns and adjectives like ‘abuse’ and ‘abusive’. Amir must be aware of the importance of the use of the past simple, when necessary as no examples were provided when he spoke about something he had done two years ago.

Mojde Esfandiyari

Mojde’s pronunciation is fine and she had clearly spent a lot of time planning and memorising her answers to my questions which meant her grammatical and structural accuracy was generally quite good but there was a distinct lack of naturalness in her speech. Although learning some key responses is helpful at this level, she must be careful not to use them too much or pick up on a key word and provide her pre-learned answer without checking that it does in fact answer the question she was asked.

Mahshid Delpazir

Mahshid spoke with confidence and was able to provide some thoughtful answers to my questions using a nice range of vocabulary. She used a couple of examples of the past simple, when necessary but must spend some time working on the verb + gerund/infinitive with ‘to’ structure and be carefully not to confuse her present simple agreements with ‘to be’.

Pejman Ghani

Pejman provided thoughtful and personal answers and included a number of regular and irregular past simple structures, when required. He also included a ‘going to’ future which worked well. Unfortunately his speech was slightly broken up by lots of hesitation which affected the overall fluency and sometimes made it quite difficult to follow what he was saying. I would recommend some speaking practice so he becomes more confident structuring his sentences on the spot.

Reza Basirat

Reza has a great range of vocabulary which he was able to put to good use during the interview. His sentence structure is excellent and he used a range of modal verbs for different functions and the past simple, when required. Reza must be careful to use ‘opinion’ not ‘idea’ in the sentence ‘in my opinion...’ and could try to improve his pronunciation slightly to bring it up to the same level as his language skills.

Daryuosh Saadat

Daryuosh expanded his answers well, without encouragement and used the past simple when necessary. He was quite hesitant in his speaking which affected the fluency of his speech and often repeated the question in his answer. Some general speaking practice should solve both of these issues fairly quickly.  He must also try to get out of the habit of finishing his sentences with ‘that’s it’.

Shahrokh Shojaei ABSENT

Shahrzad Rasekh

Shahrzad was able to provide well-developed and interesting answers in response to my questions and included lots of accurate examples of regular and irregular past simple verbs.  Her range of vocabulary, and sentence structure were both excellent. She needs to be careful not to make mistakes with her subject verb agreements and could look to include some more complex forms such as a simple future or continuous in the future.

Mandana Rasekh

Mandana’s subject verb agreements were all accurate and she used a few different examples of modal verbs for various uses. Her answers were well-developed and naturally-delivered. An area in which Mandana made a couple of mistakes was with her use of prepositions which she should focus in going forward.

Maryam Safaei

Maryam’s pronunciation is good and she was able to include some excellent vocabulary, particularly when talking about how she would help someone who had been affected by a natural disaster. Her use of modal verbs was also very good. Maryam should spend a bit of time revising how to express what she does in her free time, namely, the verb + gerund/infinitive with ‘to’ structure.

Elham Gholami

Elham’s range of vocabulary is fine for this level and she was able to include some different expressions and adverbs of frequency when talking about her free time activities. Her use of modal verbs was good. She needs to work on her subject verb agreements and must remember to include the adjective when using superlatives.

Moslem Ezi

Moslem understood my questions well and clarified a couple of them to ensure he was providing the correct answer which shows a nice attention to detail. His level of topic-specific vocabulary is good but he must spend some time perfecting his use of articles and prepositions, going forward.
