Interview Feedback Level 8 Group 51

Mohammad Ali Kashtiaray

Mohammad’s listening skills are good and he was able to expand upon his answers without encouragement. He included a variety of expressions and adverbs of frequency and his range of vocabulary is fine for this level. He made a few mistakes in his pronunciation including ‘real’ and ‘know’ but these can easily be remedied. He must also remember the structure of ‘I like to read/reading’.

Poriya Parivar

Poriya provided a detailed introduction to himself and his family but must be careful not to speak too quickly in such a rehearsed manner. He included a good example of the passive voice and his range of vocabulary is good. Poriya should try to allow himself more time to develop his answers which would help to improve his overall accuracy. Specifically, he should spend some time focusing on his use of plurals and be sure not to miss out the verb ‘to be’, when required.

Mohammah Amin Sajediyan

Mohammah Amin seemed a little nervous during the interview but took his time to develop his answers which allowed him to pay attention to his accuracy and self-correct, on occasion. His prepositions of location and his use of comparative adjectives were all good. Unfortunately, Mohammah misunderstood my question about natural disasters which was one of the target questions and confused his adjectives, nouns and verbs on occasion.

Atefeh Askari

Atefeh expanded her answers well and included a range of adverbs and expressions of frequency. She used the past simple when required, and was able to maintain it throughout her story which is great. Atefeh must watch her pronunciation of ‘Chemistry’ and be sure to use ‘c’ not ‘ch’ sound at the beginning. She should also consider slowing her speaking down to allow herself more time to think about and construct her answer. This will help improve her basic accuracy.

Mina Honarvaran

Mina’s listening skills are good and she spoke with a nice level of fluency. She expanded her answers well and included a basic conditional structure accurately. She must remember to use ‘the’ not ‘a’ with superlative adjectives and use plurals, without an article, for speaking generally. Mina needs to pay a little more attention to her subject verb agreements.

Azar Zarei

Azar’s listening skills are good and she has a well-developed range of vocabulary. She used a couple of different future time expressions and a ‘going to’ structure which is excellent to see at this level and used the past simple when required. A few areas in which Azar made mistakes include her use of plurals, confusing her adjectives and adverbs and forgetting the ‘to’ when talking about free time activities such as ‘I like (to) cook’.

Shoayb Shahrivar

Shoayb has a bank of well-developed vocabulary and his sentence structure was very accurate throughout. He used the past simple when required and used comparative and superlative adjectives well. Unfortunately, Shoayb made some repeated, basic mistakes with the use of his ‘he/she’ subjects and occasionally confused his adverbs and adjectives. He must also remember not to include the definite article when speaking generally.

Mohsen Balaghi

Mohsen’s listeing skills are good and he included an interesting and accurate mix of adjectives and adverbs. His sentence structure was generally quite good and included a quite advanced use of ‘would + like’ to talk about a desire. Going forward, he must work on is use of plurals and needs to be sure to use the present continuous, rather than then present simple, to talk about how long he has been studying English for.

Saiedeh Faraj Zadeh

Saiedeh expanded her answers well, without the need for a prompt, and her sentence structure, overall, was very accurate. She used the past simple when required and attempted a second conditional but did not include the ‘would’ clause. Going forward, Saiedeh must remember to use plurals, without articles, for generalisations and should consider trying to include some more advanced structures such as a future or accurate conditional form into her speech in order to further increase her marks.

Hosein Rezai

Hosein clearly feels very relaxed communicating in English and both his speaking and listening skills are excellent. He has a very good range of vocabulary and was able to include a variety of modal verbs for advice and recommendation. Hosein made a couple of errors with he/she subjects and occasionally using the past simple to talk about hobbies but was, overall, very accurate. He should consider trying to include some more complex forms such as a future or conditional structure to challenge himself further in the future.

Reza Keshtekaran

Reza expanded his answers well and has a good range of vocabulary. He included some accurate examples of the past simple and the passive voice and an interesting future time expression. Although providing an introduction to yourself and your family is good, Reza must be sure not to continue talking for longer than is necessary for risk of what he is saying becoming slightly disjointed. He must also look out for occasions when he confuses verbs and nouns/adjectives, e.g ‘to understand’ and ‘understanding’.

Mohammad Saham

Mohammad was able to provide some good examples of what he does in his free time and his range of vocabulary is fine for this level. He also used a modal verb when discussing what we ‘should’ do in the case of an emergency. Unfortunately Mohammad misunderstood a couple of my questions and seemed very nervous when speaking. My advice to Mohammad would be to get as much listening and speaking practice as possible in his free time in order to increase his confidence in the future.

Mohammad Payandeh

Mohammad spoke with confidence and included a nice range of modal verbs when discussing what should be done in an emergency situation. His range of vocabulary is fine for this level and he included an excellent present perfect structure when talking about something he has always been interested in. Mohammad must remember not to use articles when generalising and should try harder not to forget his plurals. He also confused ‘fiction’ and ‘non-fiction’.
